Underdrawing process pic from a new series of paintings I’m starting based on ‘Li’ a concept from Asian philosophy (can be found in Buddhism and Taoism, with it’s main roots in Neo-Confucianism). The concept pertains to the basic patterns of the universe and the underlying intelligence and order of nature. Li can be found in the patterns of skin, the sky, marble, woodgrain, water, and so much more. Li and Qi, commonly known as ‘Chi’ (life force, energy flow, vital essence) together form Taiji, a supreme ultimate state of undifferentiated absolute and infinite potentiality.
