This morning while on our way to meet up with our homeschool co-op we were listening to OPB radio and as is often the case these days there was mention of climate change. For the first time my oldest daughter (4) asked me ‘mama what is climate change?’. This was a pivotal moment for my heart and soul which I felt clench up at this question. While trying to control my tears I explained the best I could the systemic nature of one of humanity’s penultimate challenges. So much emotion came up for me with this question. Although it has been at the forefront of my internal landscape and radar for many years hearing this from my heart, my daughter really made the complexity and scariness of this issue come smacking home. I am worried about the future for my daughters and for all of humanity and the natural world. I learned a new term lately, ‘hyperobjects’, which are subjects/things that are so complex and such big systems that they are or are almost incomprehensible to our human brains. I am feeling the urgency even more after this morning to be involved myself and with my friends and family in addressing and tackling this giant issue of our time. #hyperobjects #climatechange #kidsandclimatechange #climatechangeeducation #extinctionrebellion #350pdx ##Systems complexity ##kidsandactivism #ThePermacultureParent #thegreatturning #grief
